The Norfolk-Terrier is a stocky, energetic, compact and robust terrier with erect ears. A dog with good substance and bone. He is sweet, non-conflict, hardy; vigilant and fearless.
The breed comes from East Anglia - the area around Norwich, Norfolk. Hence, by the way, the name of the breed.
History of the breed
The Norfolk-Terrier and Norwich-Terrier share a common origin, a common history, and a common appearance. Moreover, initially terriers of both species were crossed with each other, exhibited at exhibitions simultaneously in the same ring and were considered one breed.
Starting around the 30s (speaking of the twentieth century), many breeders, having decided which type of terrier they liked best - with erect ears or with hanging ears, began to conduct separate breeding.
During the Second World War, the breed practically ceased to exist, but enthusiasts revived the breed. Then the question about the position of the ears again arose.
Since both versions of the breed had many fans, it was decided to have two standards of the same breed. However, the English Kennel Club insisted on two separate breeds, each with its own separate name. Terriers with erect ears are called Norwich Terrier, and terriers with hanging ears are called Norfolk Terrier. The division into two breeds occurred in 1964.
Norfolk-Terrier and Norwich-Terrier, what are the differences:
The breeds have only ONE difference - the shape of the ears. The Norwich Terrier is a dog with erect ears, the Norfolk Terrier is a dog with drooping ears.
Of course, a lot of time has passed since the division and now it is a separate independent breed. It is believed that Norfolks are more active and energetic and have retained their working qualities to a greater extent.

Norfolk Terrier puppies are similar to Norwich Terrier puppies.
Prices for both breeds are comparable.
We chose Norwich. A terrier with erect ears seems cuter to us.
