Kern-Terrier

The Cairn Terrier dog breed comes from Great Britain. It was bred to hunt rabbits and foxes in Scotland. The Kern is an agile, energetic terrier with a rough coat.

The Cairns are larger and lighter in appearance than the Norwich ones. Both terriers are wire-haired, but visually differ due to different grooming, different hardness of the coat and the direction of its growth.

The Cairn Terrier also has a strong build, but the Cairn, compared to the Norwich, has slightly longer legs and a slightly lighter build. There is no such volume.

The Cairn-Terrier's coat is harsh, but not rough, and softer than that of the Norwich. The direction of growth is to the sides. The Cairn Terrier's coat is like a hat.

The Cairn Terrier comes in the following colors: cream, wheaten, red, gray or almost black. In all of these colors, brindle is acceptable. Pure black or black and tan, white are not allowed. Dark markings on the ears and face are very typical.

Cairn-Terrier and Norwich-Terrier, what are the differences:

Cairn-Terriers and Norwich-Terriers are visually similar and some even confuse them. Both have variants of the red color, but the other colors are not the same. Both terriers are wire-haired, but visually differ due to different grooming, different hardness of the coat and the direction of its growth. It is believed that Norwich are more peaceful.

Cairn Terrier puppies are up to a certain point similar to Norwich puppies, but differences, with similar colors, appear already by two months. Then they can no longer be confused.

The Norwich coat is hard, wiry, straight, lying close to the body with a dense, developed undercoat (tight, close-fitting shell).

The Cairn has a hard coat, but is softer than the Norwich. The direction of growth is to the sides (ruffled hat).

Color

All shades of red, wheaten, black and tan or grizzly (a variant of red with black). Zone color options: black and tan and grizzly have clear zone boundaries; any zone color is always against a tan background on the face, paws and under the tail. Norwich Terriers are not brindle.

Cream, wheat, red, gray or almost black. In all of these colors, brindle is acceptable. Pure black or black and tan, white are not allowed. Dark markings on the ears and face are very typical.

Character

The Cairn-Terrier, like the Norwich-Terrier, has a pleasant disposition, not quarrelsome, extremely active, with a courageous character, cheerful and fearless, but at the same time, Norwiches are calmer than Cairns, which is not bad for a city dog.

Price

The price of Cairn Terrier puppies is comparable to the cost of Norwich puppies.

Given the similarity between these two wonderful breeds, we chose the Norwich.
