Teaching a puppy to walk outside
If your puppy is 3.5 months old, it’s time to go outside! We immediately begin to accustom the puppy to walking on a leash. This is the generally accepted norm.
Take a treat for a walk. By receiving positive reinforcement, your puppy will quickly love being outside and get used to the collar and leash.

If your puppy is 3.5 months old, it’s time to take him outside! Why is it important? The opinion of canine psychologists and our own observations show that after 4 months, puppies begin a period of fear.
If you want your puppy to enjoy walks, don’t waste time. This is especially true for puppies that were born in late autumn and winter. It seems that it won’t be bad if the puppy stays at home longer, because it’s cold outside (dirty, rainy). But in this case, it will be more difficult for the puppy to get used to walking outside.
Buy your puppy a jacket or thick vest made of windproof fabric. Just to keep the puppy warmer. And start taking it outside. A 3.5 month old puppy will be very interested in learning new things because it is a terrier.
We immediately begin to accustom the puppy to walking on a leash. This is the generally accepted norm. The owner is responsible for the behavior of his dog; a leash will also help prevent conflicts with surrounding people and other dogs and other dangerous situations. A leash will help you stop your dog in time or take it away at any time.
What you will need:
-
COLLAR
Collar made of soft material with a secure clasp. The collar should fit tightly enough, but not squeeze the puppy's neck. There should be a small gap between the neck and the collar.
-
LEASH
For initial walks you will need a short leash of 1.5-2 meters. We don't use a tape measure for a puppy because it can slip out of your hands and scare or hurt the puppy. Due to the length, the puppy can become entangled in the cord, which can also frighten him. For adult dogs, tape measure is also not recommended, because in the event of some unusual situation you can lose control over the dog.
We connect all the parts: dog + collar + leash and go outside. Some of the puppies will immediately go to sniff everything, others will freeze and think for a while. Stay nearby, don’t pull on the leash, don’t pull the puppy along with you, let him look around.
Take a treat for a walk. With its help, you can lure the puppy to you when he is confused, and after some time, start practicing the command “Come to me” and “Nearby”.
By receiving positive reinforcement, your puppy will quickly love being outside and get used to the collar and leash.
