First night in a new house
The first night, or perhaps several nights, that your Norwich Terrier puppy will spend in your home and at the same time away from his brothers, sisters and mother, may become somewhat difficult for you and for the puppy.
Don't worry - it won't last long.

A small puppy is a small child, even though it is a dog. Of course, if left alone, he will feel a little sad, and may behave restlessly on the first night. Therefore, we recommend picking up the puppy from the kennel on Saturday morning or before the big weekend. The baby will get tired from the move and will probably spend the night quite calmly. During the first days that you spend with the puppy, the little Norwich Terrier will fully adapt to new conditions, and you will learn about his habits.
If by nightfall the puppy has slept well and is ready to communicate, then play with him and then feed him at night. Closer to bedtime. If your puppy starts whining at night, try a couple of options:
- Place a soft toy and a warm water bottle (a plastic bottle filled with warm water) in the puppy's house. The puppy will warm up and fall asleep. In this case, it is worth keeping an eye on the heating pad. A cold heating pad is of no use there.
- Place the puppy house next to your bed. Lower your hand towards the puppy. He will feel calmer and fall asleep.
You can combine both options.
Should you take your Norwich Terrier puppy into your bed if he whines?
If your puppy is whining and you decide to take him into your bed, think about it! You can only take him there if you don't mind him always sleeping there. It will be difficult or almost impossible to wean him off! There is also a danger that the puppy may fall off the bed and get injured.
Forceful methods of influencing the puppy are not necessary!
Try to avoid forceful methods of influencing the puppy. They can be dangerous and ineffective.
